ZAKHORIUM

Statement

Even according to the Bible, David and Solomon's kingdom did not stay intact for long. The monarchy was controversial from the start: the prophet Samuel had warned the Israelites of a king's dangers, and Solomon's policy of drawing forced labor from his subjects for his grand projects deepened the misgivings. When his son Rehoboam took power, Jeroboam led 10 of the 12 tribes in a rebellion, leaving the Davidic kingdom reduced to the territory of the tribe of Judah.
