Statement

One Elephantine document is a letter from a certain Hananiah to the community, dated to 418 BCE, instructing it how to keep Passover. It is fragmentary and much of its content has to be reconstructed, but it appears to have been ordered by the Persian authorities: 'word was sent from the king'.
