Statement
According to Ezra-Nehemiah, the return and the rebuilding of the Temple were not enough. On reaching Yehud, Ezra and Nehemiah found Jerusalem largely unrestored, the people discontented and close to blending into the surrounding population, marrying outsiders and losing their own language. Full restoration required the people to recommit to God's law by reading and studying Moses's teaching.
