Statement
Antiochus viewed the struggles between Jason and Menelaus as a revolt. He plundered the Temple, is said to have set up in it some sacrilegious object (an idol or an altar) in order to rededicate it to Zeus, and installed in Jerusalem a citadel garrisoned by non-Jewish soldiers.
