Statement
The best known of these contests occurred in the summer of 1263 in Barcelona: the convert Pablo Cristiani confronted Moses ben Nahman (Nahmanides), counted among the foremost rabbis of the day, in a debate summoned by King James I of Aragon. Two accounts were written, a Christian one in Latin and Nahmanides's reply in Hebrew, and he proved a brilliant debater.
