Statement
His Talmud commentary reached the whole Jewish world: within fifty years of his death his glosses were familiar to rabbis across Europe, and within a century scholars everywhere read them, Christian Hebraists trying to grasp the Talmud among them. When the full Babylonian Talmud came off the presses in Italy in the 1520s, Rashi's glosses appeared in the margins, and every standard edition since has carried them.
