Statement
Medieval Christendom swung between two poles: Jews seen as living in error yet indispensable, and so entitled to a place in Christian society; or Jews seen as a potential danger to the purity of Christian belief and society. For most of the period the pragmatic, tolerant stance won out, but the harsher outlook of Galatians was always available to be acted on.
